Eyebrows au go go
Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 19 July 2007 10:10 (A review of Tomorrow Coast to Coast)The thing about Tom Snyder is you know he hasn't got a clue, but it doesn't matter. He got all sorts of interesting guests and talked about stuff that mattered, sometimes he came of like a decent and intelligent guy, sometimes a confused and dottering middle aged guy that sounds like your dad when he gets reallly annoyed but it makes Paris Hilton talking to Larry King look like the waster of airspace it is.

Back to the Future of China
Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 1 July 2007 10:53 (A review of Face to Face with China)An interesting take by Rattenbury on the history and future directions of China from the angle of commonalities and differences to British society. Written at a time post war only just pre communist revolution, in only give scant mention to the CCP focussing on the then Nationalist system. The sensitive photography by reknowed lensman Cecil Beaton add a glorious touch to an intriguing and well meaning tome that is quite a time capsule now.

Great Milligan madness
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 23 June 2007 11:29 (A review of Q...)The great Milligan tv experiment. It went for a long time, and was extremely silly. Ok Monty Python was around, but this was even more surreal, incongruent and stupid. A bunch of middle aged men acting like slightly simple schoolboys. Maybe even more so than Benny Hill. And it had girls with big knockers flashing about. I liked that when I was ten. Still do.

Not all beer and skittles
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 23 June 2007 11:19 (A review of The Last of the Australians)Alwyn Kurts, perhaps best known as one of the stars of Homicide lead the way in this short lived sit com, roughly an aussie version of Sid James in Bless this House. Not brilliant, but it had it's moments and Kurts made the show his own. One episode includes a cameo by future pm Bob Hawke.

Gamera kicks alien ass
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 20 June 2007 07:57 (A review of Attack Of The Monsters)Hooray for Gamera the children's friend. He beats up and kills all the bad things again and everybody is home for dinner. This is one of the sillier ones of this type, I think an eight year old wrote it but it makes me smile anyway.

The first great aussie soap
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 16 June 2007 09:28 (A review of Number 96)Nobody says Australia in the 70s like this early soap. Shows up nonsense like "Neighbours" and "Home and Away" for the assinine purile tripe it is. Centered around a ficticious apartment block in Sydney's fashionable Eastern suburbs this wasn't brilliant, but it shook up a naive and innocent aussie tv audience with it's early depictions of nudity and it's often sophisticated subject matter for the time. I think "Chances" was sort of and attempt to recreate the energy and controversy, but this was the real deal. And some of those 70s fashions my god! Floral dresses with big hair and wide ties and hang glider collars galore. Did people really look that awful?!

Taste overboard
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 16 June 2007 09:09 (A review of All at Sea)A made for tv comedy film starring the creme de la creme of aussie cabaret and the stars of "Blankety Blanks", "The Celebrity Game" and "Number 96". It's intent was to make a carry on style slap and tickle comedy. It may have worked only for a totally awful and embarrassing script and not overly impressive direction.
I was giving it 2 but Abigial adds two points extra.

Hard to swallow
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 12 June 2007 02:51 (A review of Deep Blue Sea)This is a very silly film in which almost everybody gets eaten. LL Cool is pretty entertaining, but everybody else is pretty forgettable even Samuel L Jackson. People expecting a high tech jaws (which is probably what they where aiming for) might be disappointed. I think they jumped the shark as it where.

My two wives..
Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 10 June 2007 10:40 (A review of Goodnight Sweetheart)You've of sailors with a girl in every port? Spare a thought for Gary Sparrow, a man with a life and wives in two seperate times. Caught between Britain of world war two and the modern day. How would you cope?
Nicholas Lyndhurst's (best known as Rodney in "only Fools and Horses) finest moment. A well written, sensitive and entertaining drama/comedy.

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 9 June 2007 06:27 (A review of Pokรฉmon)This is a nice show about a young fellow who trains creatures called pokemon and his friends on his adventures toward becoming a master of pokemon. Every episode has a sameness to it so it's easy to follow even if you miss the odd episode. The program is designed to sell toys.
The original Japanese is as usual more sophisticated than the English dub and has bits in it that can give you an epileptic seizure.
