Politics is a rubbery game

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 4 June 2007 12:45 (A review of Rubbery Figures)

A Australian political satire puppet show similar to "Spitting Image". The voice artists included Mary-Anne Fahey of Kylie Mole / Comedy Company fame and Tony Martin of D-Generation, Matin-Molloy etc
Very faced paced and crazy, with occasion moments of brutal insight.

Remember to whipe off the custard

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 4 June 2007 12:38 (A review of Australia You're Standing in It)

A silly cult ish thing of a sketch show that ran on Australia's public broadcaster in the early to mid eightees. A few of these comedians had appeared in an earlier show on channel 10 called "ratbags" and later would be seen on "The Big Gig" and "Fast Forward" among other things.
It gave birth to bizarre characters like Tim and Debbie and The Dodgy Brothers and introduced the cult of "Chunky Custard".
A very mad show that was hosted by animated skinny beardy person Rod Quantock

We surveyed 100 people and got the top response to this. Name a failed game show that is a re-hash of a game show that's played on various channels since the seventies with several hosts that was re-cycled as many of these things are from an American idea because we gave up trying to think of anything orignial, that we paid an all time aussie tv legend who vowed never to work for us again a huge sum of money to do in a vain attempt to get back ratings we have lost from channel seven. And the survey said...

The wheels on the skaters go round and r

What the hell. This is officially very bad. Only surpassed in it's awful by the sequel which was a highlights reel of this eh!
Some post appocalyptic thing like Mad Max but on skates. Weird trippy, disjointed and highly b-grade. This is cutting edge like scissors in melted butter. Made to go immediately to VHS do not pass go.

Look out below television on the way

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 1 June 2007 11:59 (A review of Times Square)

An amazing teen rebellion film about two runaways that accidently become famous. Robin Johnson was just incredible. What the hell happened to her? The always animated Tim Curry is great as the charismatic bordering on vampiric dj. The music and it's use of the best known new wave acts of the day makes this even more electric. A well worth aquiring soundtrack. A breath of pure freedom.

Didn't learn much

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 1 June 2007 11:31 (A review of My Tutor)

A starring role for the guy only really known as Olivia Newton John' ex husband. Umn...another porkies teen exploitation fil about a young man's affair with a sexy older woman who is fairly impressive. Look out for a young Crispin Glover in a movie he's probably like to forget, but who knows he's done all kinds of weird stuff. It has some fun moments and a definate early 80s stamp on it. Fairly forgettable though.

One of Marilyn

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 1 June 2007 11:24 (A review of Don't Bother to Knock)

A stunning early role from Marilyn as a confused and damaged woman (not too far from the truth) it proves what a good actress she actually was capable of being although rarely had the full opportunity to realise. Touching and memorable.

A particular load of crap

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 31 May 2007 12:51 (A review of A Certain Sacrifice)

A bloody awful, poorly shot, edited and recorded student flick that just happened to include a young Madonna. Otherwise it would have been thrown in the bin and forgotten. Should've been. It's just gross and unwatchable

Neu naughty welle

Posted : 16 years, 10 months ago on 31 May 2007 11:55 (A review of New Wave Hookers)

Eh. Interesting early exploration from The Darks. Traci Lords was in the original version, but seems to have been removed from the dvd for various reasons. I think her performance was a fairly mediocre that time anyway. Ginger in this one is oohhh my god!, as is Desiree. The guys are all pretty ridiculous. It would have made a good low budget legit teen exploitation flick.
